Donald Trump, in his latest screed decrying ‘WOKE,’ wrote on the interwebs that the Smithsonian is “out of control,” because, among other things, it’s too focused on “how horrible our Country is, how bad Slavery was, and how unaccomplished the downtrodden have been.”
“Nothing about Success, nothing about Brightness, nothing about the Future,” wrote Mr. Make America Great Again, who went on to relate that he has instructed his “attorneys” to “go through the Museums” to start “the exact same process that has been done with Colleges and Universities where tremendous progress has been made.”
Here we go.
Wait, a little more from Mr. Positivity.
“This Country cannot be WOKE, because WOKE IS BROKE,” Trump wrote. “We have the ‘HOTTEST’ Country in the World, and we want people to talk about it, including in our Museums.”
Where to start in unpacking this: first, if you don’t know your history, you’re doomed to repeat it.
You’d think a self-styled high-IQ individual like Mr. Trump, whose father most certainly didn’t buy his Ivy League degree for him, would have come across that line at some point in his 79 years of playing golf, filing for bankruptcy and hanging out with history’s most prolific child rapist.
ICYMI
- Donald Trump, again, changes his story on Jeffrey Epstein, that guy he doesn’t know
- Trump now claims breakup with Jeffrey Epstein was over underage girl
The way we don’t repeat the dumb things our predecessors got themselves into is not to pretend those dumb things didn’t happen.
To do that, of course, means you have to be willing to admit faults.
Trump, for a fake Christian, isn’t good at the copping to sin and asking for forgiveness thing.
Dude honestly thinks he’s never done a single bad thing in his life.
Next, to the telling line in the screed, where Trump takes issue with the Smithsonian featuring exhibits on “how bad Slavery was.”
This, from the guy who, with his father, systematically denied rental applications from Blacks, who took out a full-page newspaper ad calling for the executions of a group of Black teenagers who were later exonerated in a rape case, who insisted he had evidence that the country’s first Black president was born in Kenya.
Wow.
Just, wow.
So, what, did Trump host another White House screening of “Birth of a Nation,” and like the first president who screened the KKK propaganda piece, Woodrow Wilson, did he say, as the final credits rolled:
“It is like writing history with lightning. And my only regret is that it is all so terribly true.”
Of course he didn’t watch an entire movie.
Guy has the attention span of a gnat.
Moving on: “how unaccomplished the downtrodden have been” is also rich coming from Trump, a failson who had frittered away almost the entirety of his inheritance before convincing NBC that he was still a billionaire, then using the credibility created for him by a fake-reality TV show to somehow get elected president, which is where he finally made money on his own, for the first time in his life, by monetizing his proximity to power.
This guy is a nurse sending him home with the wrong family away from being a retired bus driver, and he dares talk about people being “unaccomplished” or “downtrodden.”
Last point here: “WOKE IS BROKE.”
For the billionth time, the opposite of “woke” is “ignorant,” and the aim of those who are “woke” is to enact public policies that give everybody a shot at being productive members of society, which, by definition, means we need to undo two centuries of policies that reward people born on third base who think they hit a grand slam/slam dunk/touchdown.
I still can’t figure out how working-class and lower-middle-class Whites let themselves be hoodwinked into thinking a paper billionaire who has never worked an honest day in his life is more like them than working-class and lower-middle-class Blacks and Latinos and single moms and LGBTQ+s that the White MAGAs are programmed into thinking are their enemy.
Seriously, he has y’all on the verge of defending slavery as having been a good thing.
