The return of the Buckhorn Inn

buckhorn-inn.JPGIt’s ba-a-a-ack – the Buckhorn Inn, that is.
The Churchville landmark reopened in March after an eight-year hiatus under the ownership of Garlan and Sylvia Yoder – who purchased the historic Valley inn initially with the idea of focusing on the bed and breakfast.
“We had looked at B&Bs as possibility for several years because we enjoyed hospitality, and we saw it as something we could do as a family,” said Garlan Yoder, a Harrisonburg native and hardwood-flooring contractor.
The couple decided to reopen the restaurant in large part due to the experience of Sylvia, a native Canadian who grew up in Belize working in a family-owned restaurant.
“We want to create an atmosphere that is conducive to families in both the restaurant and B&B,” Garlan Yoder said.
The restaurant buffet opened in March. A ribbon-cutting ceremony conducted by the Greater Augusta Regional Chamber of Commerce is scheduled for Friday – and a grand opening is set for Oct. 25-27 with special appearances from The Walnut Ridge Boys and Classic Carriages on Oct. 27.
The Buckhorn Inn restaurant is open Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays from 4-9 p.m. Thursdays and Saturdays feature the traditional country buffet. Fridays feature the seafood buffet with crab legs.
The bed and breakfast, which has five rooms available, is open seven days a week.
