Good news in Washington Commanders World: Terry McLaurin isn’t going anywhere.
The five-time thousand-yard wideout signed a three-year, $96 million extension on Monday, a deal that includes a $30 million signing bonus.
Whew.
McLaurin had engaged in a holdout, a holdin – whatever that is – and went public with a trade request, all over money, which is understandable.
We all think we need more money.
McLaurin was set to play 2025 on the final year of a three-year deal signed after the 2022 season that was worth $70 million.
His issue with that rate of pay: the pay scale to elite wideouts has adjusted upward.
McLaurin is now one of 10 NFL wideouts getting an average annual value of $30 million a year.
The $22.8 million that he was set to play for in 2025 was 19th among wideouts in the league.
“What top receivers are compensated in today’s NFL — wide receiver ones — I feel like I am that,” McLaurin said last month, in the midst of the holding out, holding in and the rest.
“I feel like that has displayed itself not only with this cycle of receivers who have signed, but last year. I know I’m in that category,” McLaurin said.
