Sustainable Shenandoah Valley will hold its Celebration of Collaboration on Thursday, April 12, at Bridgewater College Nininger Hall at 4 pm.
The event will celebrate and connect individuals and organizations to strengthen community projects that support sustainability. The goals for SSV are to preserve, increase, and enhance the Shenandoah Valley’s unique educational, social, environmental, and economic resources to ensure the future well-being of Valley residents and our children.
Steve Grande, Director of Community Service Learning at James Madison University and chair of Sustainable Shenandoah Valley, described this event: “There is great sustainability work being done up and down the Valley, and we continue to hear from non-profit agencies, businesses, municipalities, and schools that there is a desire to know more about what others are doing, identify effective ways to support joint efforts, and involve students in solutions. Sustainable Shenandoah Valley will serve as a platform to support and enhance our strengths. The April 12th event will launch that effort with inspiring information and opportunities to connect.”
SSV is spearheaded by representatives from Bridgewater College, Eastern Mennonite University, the International Beliefs and Values Institute, James Madison University, and Mary Baldwin University. SSV collaborates with individuals, teachers, higher education representatives, members of the local business community, local and regional governmental officials, researchers, and other community members, supporting local solutions for our most pressing sustainability challenges while also incorporating and learning from our global connections. The SSV is one of only six Regional Centers of Expertise (RCE) in the United States, while there are more than 150 throughout the world. RCEs are committed to facilitating lifelong education, creating platforms for local dialogue, and strengthening partnerships for sustainable development.
