Staunton Music Guild helps buy new bass for VSDB band

Contributors

May 28-2014 Bass PresentationThe Staunton Music Guild recently presented the Virginia School of the Deaf and the Blind’s (VSDB) Bluegrass Band with a new standup bass for their musical program. Following a 2013 musical instrument drive spearheaded by John and Cheryl Huggins of Shenandoah Pizza and the Greater Augusta Regional Chamber of Commerce, the Guild gathered individual donations and held an event at Shenandoah Pizza to supplement previous contributions.

Members of the Staunton Music Guild board, Gene Blackmer, Director of the VSDB Bluegrass Band, and Mariah Dunham, the seventh grader who will be using the bass, gathered at Fretwell Bass and Acoustic Instruments in downtown Staunton for the presentation. Fretwell Bass owners Jerry and Mary Jane donated extra gear and a portion of the cost of the bass to the cause.

The Staunton Music Guild is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization whose mission is to support the performance and growth of music in the Staunton area through promotion, education and community outreach. Visit www.stauntonmusicguild.org or Facebook for more information.
