Staunton: Art Hive to host opening reception for ‘Divinity in the Decay’

Art Hive will host an opening reception next Friday for “Divinity in the Decay,” new and old works by emerging local artist Beth Sweet of Greenville.

From 5 to 7 p.m., the public is invited to a reception on Friday, October 11, 2024, of a curated selection of works by Sweet, who draws attention to the inherent beauty found in all stages of the life cycle. From the cradle of natural death and decay, rebirth is a resurrection of that which will never truly die. The spark of life which flares up and dies down in such an elegant dance is mirrored in the rising and setting of the sun, the wheel of the seasons and the rhythm of human breath.

The public is invited to find joy in the cadence of the cycle, celebrate the endings, just as the beginnings are celebrated. Experience the divinity in the decay.

Sweet attended Blue Ridge Community College and JMU, where she majored in fine arts and acquired her teaching license. She worked as an art teacher for the three years, and married her partner, Kacey, in 2024. She is pursuing a master’s in counseling at Eastern Mennonite University. She loves hiking, baking, painting and learning new crafts.

Art Hive is at 835 Spring Hill Rd, in Staunton.
