Southern gospel music at WTA’s Gateway

WTA will present its first Gospel Music Concert on Friday, March 30 at its Gateway in Downtown Waynesboro.  The group, Calvary’s Mercy Quartet, is recognized throughout the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast for traditional Southern Gospel Music at its finest.

“We are so pleased to have Calvary’s Mercy at the Gateway,” said Tracy Straight, WTA’s programming chair.  “This is our first gospel performance and the Quartet is an ideal way for us to initiate this new venture.”  The concert at WTA’s Gateway will be one of the few given in a theatre setting.  The concert is at 7:30 at 329 West Main Street, Waynesboro.

The Calvary’s Mercy is recognized for infusing its performances with energy and feeling.  Their concerts are a mixture of both traditional classic gospel songs and the best of today’s Southern Gospel along with their own original material. Each member of this group brings a quality of his own, and has a calling to share God’s love through both music and testimony.

The quartet was formed in 2006.  It quickly gained the attention of the Gospel music industry. Those who have heard them in performance say that “Once you hear this group, you’ll want to see them again, and again.”   The members of the quartet include Phil Perry, tenor; Mark Swineford, lead; Henry Daniels, baritone; and Wes Allen, bass.  Al Diehl accompanies on the piano.

Tickets for Calvary’s Mercy are $10 and are available online at www.wtagateway.com or by calling the box office at 540-943-9999.  Available tickets will be at the box office on the night of performance.

I remember Tim Kaine, back when he was still lieutenant governor, playing a big role in helping the Virginia Poultry Growers Cooperative get off the ground, back in 2004. Bob Goodlatte tried to take the credit. I know better. I was there, literally. That’s the advantage of me being old. The Cooperative took over a...
