SMAC wins numerous events at JMU age group swim meet

Jayla white freeThe Waynesboro YMCA year-round competitive swim team, SMAC, (Shenandoah Marlins Aquatic Club) competed at the Gator Age group Meet at JMU on January 3 and 4th.  The swimmers raced for the first time after the holidays.  In swimming, the Christmas break is the midpoint of the short course season (events swam in 25 yard pools) and since the swimmers are off school and have more time to rest, the training is generally more strenuous.  The extra work in the pool reaped rewards as SMAC swam over 100 best times and won numerous races.

Highlights of the meet included:  14 swimmers with at least 5 lifetime best times (Blair, Fitzgerald, S. Hill, Kowell-Ure, Mercer, Painter, Peifer, H. Ruszala, E. Schundler, Sheffield, Smith, Snyder, J. White and Young); the boys 11 and under swimmers winning the 200 free relay, 200 medley relay and the 100 medley relay; the girls 11 and under placing 3rd in the 200 medley and 100 medley relay;  first place finishes by Fitzgerald – 200 & 500 free, Sydney Hill – 400IM, Ipsen – 25 & 100 breast, Cameron Murie – 100 fly, 200IM & 200 free, Painter – 100 fly, Ellie Schundler – 500 free, Sheffield 100 & 200 free, Snyder – 400 IM, Wagner – mile and Sterling Wissler – 100 back,

Congratulations to all the swimmers for their hard work and dedication to the sport.  They can see the results from the time spent training.
