Rumors are circulating about “inappropriate relationships” between members of the faculty at Buffalo Gap High School and students at the school, and they’ve got the attention of Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith.
“I am aware of the rumors circulating in the Buffalo Gap community regarding allegations of ‘inappropriate relationships’ at Buffalo Gap High School. At this time, the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office has not received any formal reports or complaints regarding these allegations,” Smith said in an email to AFP on Tuesday.
The rumors first got our attention over the weekend.
I reached out to Smith on Tuesday, and also on Tuesday sent emails to Eric Bond, the superintendent of schools in Augusta County, and a member of the Augusta County School Board who one reader thinks has been made aware of more specifics involving what has been alleged.
Neither has responded as of this writing.
The first confirmation that there may be anything to the rumors came from the sheriff.
“We take any concerns of this nature very seriously,” Smith wrote to me in his email response. “If anyone has credible information, I strongly encourage them to come forward and report it to the Sheriff’s Office so that we can conduct a thorough and appropriate investigation. Ensuring the safety and well-being of students is a top priority, and we will address any substantiated concerns in accordance with the law.”
I’ll suggest here that anyone with information about the allegations contact Smith at [email protected] or by calling the ACSO at (540) 245-5333.
