Route 682 in Rockingham County to close Oct. 26

Chris Graham

road-work-headerThe Virginia Department of Transportation will close part of Route 682 (Friedens Church Road) in Rockingham County on Saturday, Oct. 26 for bridge improvements. The road will be closed from about 6 a.m. to 8 p.m., just east of the entrance to the Wal-Mart distribution center near Interstate 81.

The closure will enable crews to strengthen the bridge over Pleasant Run by installing additional steel beams to the structure. The bridge is scheduled for a complete rehabilitation in 2018, but this work will allow it to continue handling heavy loads over the next several years. Traffic on Route 682 averages 2,714 vehicles a day.

Traffic will be detoured as follows: Westbound drivers will take Route 276 (Cross Keys Road) north and Route 253 (Port Republic Road) west to Interstate 81. Eastbound drivers will follow I-81 north to exit 245, Route 253 east and Route 276 south to Route 682.

In case of inclement weather, crews will use Sunday, October 27, 2013 as an alternate date. All work is weather permitting.
