Rotary, Augusta County Library offer Job Club

Chris Graham

The Staunton-Augusta Rotary Club in conjunction with the Augusta County Library will begin a Job Club series at the Fishersville Library, beginning Tuesday, Sept. 18, at 6 p.m.  Participants will be encouraged to share job hunting tips while members of the Rotary Club provide advice and information on topics such as creating effective résumés, interviewing skills, and dressing for success.

The Job Club has been funded by a Rotary Foundation Grant awarded to the Staunton-Augusta Rotary Club.  Job Club will meet on the first and third Tuesdays through the fall and then again in early spring.

Grants are awarded on a competitive basis.  According to Rotary District Governor Woody Sadler, “We are pleased to support this worthy project led by the Staunton-Augusta Club, which will benefit the community and involve the hands-on efforts of its club members.  Rotary Community Project Grants are funded by Rotarians’ donations to The Rotary Foundation, a portion of which is available for community projects with immediate impact.”

Augusta County Library provides free reference and computer help to all its patrons.  One of the most frequent requests is for assistance with résumés, job applications, and job searching.  “It is a joy to help these patrons and empower them to take their job search into their own hands. However, our backgrounds have not afforded us the specialized training to recommend wording on résumés or to provide intensive job coaching.  In addition, we are working under budget and staffing constraints,” said Diantha McCauley, Augusta County Library Director. “In our partnership with Rotary, we will be better able to serve our job seekers and help improve their chances of finding a much needed job.”

The Fishersville Library is located at 1759 Jefferson Highway, Fishersville.
