Robert E. Lee High School’s Key Club and National Honor Society organized a blood drive on Tuesday.

This event was held all day in the auditorium. Many students and faculty came to give blood. There were 47 registered donors and 36 units, which are equivalent to pints.

Lee hosts blood drives every year, but this year was one of the better turnouts, every time spot was filled. The nurses from the Virginia Blood Services were great and worked wonderfully with the students and first-time donors. They talked to them and made sure they were comfortable the entire time.

Hannah Perry, junior at Lee High, and first-time donor, admits that she was nervous to give blood, but she plans on giving again next year and says “everyone should do it.”

For every one person that gives blood, three lives are being saved. Everyone who donated, not only saved lives, but received a Virginia Blood Services t-shirt. Snacks and drinks were also provided for the donors.

For those of you who would like to give blood in the future, schedule an appointment with Virginia Blood Services on their website. It is very easy to do. You must be at least 17 years old (16 with parental consent) and weigh a minimum of 110 pounds. Blood that is donated goes to patients in your local community, so you may save a life that you know.

Lee High is a proud partner of Virginia Blood Services and will continue to be throughout the years. Giving blood is a great way to give back to the community. It is easy and painless. A big thank you to Lee High and Virginia Blood Services for helping support local lives.
