Roanoke man, allegedly wielding a knife, shot and killed by responding officer

A man is dead after he allegedly injured a woman and ignored repeated efforts by police to surrender early this morning.

The City of Roanoke Police Department reports the suspect advanced toward officers armed with a knife in an aggressive manner and was shot in a home in the 700 block of 29th Street at approximately 12:15 a.m.

The 26-year-old suspect, who has not been named, died at the scene.

Virginia State Police is investigating the officer-involved shooting at the request of the City of Roanoke Police Department.

The injured female was transported to Roanoke Memorial Hospital where she was treated and released.

No officers were injured in the incident.

Virginia State Police, Bureau of Criminal Investigation, Salem Division responded to the scene and is conducting the investigation.

At the completion of the investigation, the findings will be turned over to the City of Roanoke Commonwealth Attorney’s Office for review.
