Roanoke College poll: Democrats open up big leads in state races

Contributors

The Democratic Party ticket appears poised for a sweep of the state races next Tuesday, according to a new poll from Roanoke College released Wednesday.

state-capitol2Democrat Terry McAuliffe has a 46 percent to 31 percent lead over Republican Ken Cuccinelli in the governor’s race. Democrat Ralph Northam has a 48 percent to 32 percent lead in the lieutenant governor race, and Democrat Mark Herring has a 46 percent to 35 percent lead over Republican Mark Obenshain in the attorney general race.

The margins are a bit farther out there in comparison with recent. The Washington Post, in a poll released on Monday, had McAuliffe up 12 in the governor’s race, and Rasmussen Reports, in a poll released this morning, had McAuliffe up seven.

Quinnipiac had the race at a four-point margin in a poll released this morning.

Another divergence is the margin for Herring in the attorney general race. The Post had the race at a three-point lead for Herring in its Monday release, in line with other recent polling that had the race basically a toss-up.
