All lanes of Interstate 64 eastbound in Richmond are closed due to a shooting overnight that killed an 18-year-old driver.

The shooting occurred near exit 187 at approximately 1:47 a.m.

Naseem Kariem King, 18, of Varina, died at the scene. Two occupants of his vehicle were not injured.

King’s Nissan Maxima was traveling along the interstate when he was shot. The vehicle exited onto the ramp for Interstate 95 and came to a stop on the shoulder.

The Virginia State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation has responded, and the incident remains under active investigation.

Due to the shooting overnight, eastbound I-64 traffic is being diverted at Staples Mill Road in Henrico County.

Motorists should expect delays in the area.

The Virginia Department of Transportation reported that lanes were still closed at 9:45 a.m. due to police activity.

Motorists should seek alternate routes to avoid delays and be alert to detour signage when approaching the area, according to VDOT.
