No one won the $1 billion Powerball jackpot Saturday night, but one person in Virginia did win $1 million in the drawing.
If you bought a ticket at the Express Food Mart on Backlick Road in Annandale, you should check your numbers now to see if you are the winner.
The numbers drawn were white balls 1, 28, 31, 57, 58 and red Powerball 16. The Power Play multiplier was 2X.
More than 81,000 Virginia tickets won prizes, according to the Virginia Lottery. I had a ticket, but I didn’t win a penny; maybe you had better luck.
All Virginia Lottery profits, including those from the sale of Powerball tickets, go to K-12 education in Virginia.
The jackpot grows to an estimated $1.1 billion for the Monday, Dec. 15 drawing. This is the sixth largest jackpot in Powerball history.
“This jackpot streak is bringing people together to dream big during this festive time of year,” said Matt Strawn, Powerball product group chair and Iowa Lottery CEO.
If one ticket matches all six numbers, the winner will have a choice: either the full amount in annual payments over 30 years or a one-time cash option of approximately $503.4 million before taxes.
Powerball drawings are held at 10:59 p.m. Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays.
Powerball tickets are $2 per play. Tickets are sold in 45 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
Prizes range from $2 up to the jackpot. The odds of matching all six numbers to win the jackpot are 1 in 292,201,338. The odds of winning any prize are one in 25.
