Poll: Trump still not all that popular with voters

donald trumpA majority of Americans hold a negative opinion of President-elect Donald Trump, according to a new poll from Public Policy Polling.

The PPP poll has 43 percent viewing Trump favorably, with 51 percent holding an unfavorable view. The numbers represent a slight improvement for Trump from the last national poll from the organization, which had his split at 39 percent favorable/55 percent unfavorable.

Even with the improvement in light of his expected Electoral College win, Trump still trails President Obama in popularity. Obama is viewed favorably by 50 percent, and unfavorably by 45 percent.

Speaking of that Electoral College thing, 50 percent of those surveyed think the popular-vote winner should become president, to 37 percent who support the current method of electing a president, using the Electoral College.

More from the PPP poll:

  • Sixty percent of Trump voters think that Hillary Clinton received millions of illegal votes to only 18 percent who disagree with that concept, and 22 percent who aren’t sure either way.
  • Forty percent of Trump voters insist that he won the national popular vote to only 49 percent who grant that Clinton won it and 11 percent who aren’t sure.
  • Only 53 percent of Trump voters think that California’s votes should be allowed to count in the national popular vote; 29 percent don’t think they should be allowed to count, and another 18% are unsure.
  • Seventy-three percent of Trump voters think that George Soros is paying protesters against Trump to only 6 percent who think that’s not true, and 21 percent who aren’t sure one way or the other. (
  • Fourteen percent of Trump supporters think Hillary Clinton is connected to a child sex ring run out of a Washington, D.C., pizzeria. Another 32 percent aren’t sure one way or another. Only 54 percent of Trump voters expressly say they don’t think #Pizzagate is real.
  • Sixty-seven percent of Trump voters say that unemployment increased during the Obama administration, to only 20 percent who say it decreased.
  • Only 41 percent of Trump voters say that the stock market went up during the Obama administration; 39 percent say it went down, and another 19 percent say they’re not sure.
