ODU football to open 2017 season against Albany

oduOld Dominion University Athletic Director Dr. Wood Selig announced on Tuesday the Monarchs will play the University of Albany on Sept. 2, 2017.

ODU and the Great Danes have played once, a 66-10 win by the Monarchs in 2013.

Albany is led by third year head coach, Greg Gattuso.  The Great Danes finished 7-5 in 2014, Gattuso’s first season as coach and were 3-8 last year.

The Monarchs return 17 starters from last season, including Ray Lawry, the Conference USA leader in rushing yards (1,136) and TJ Ricks, the C-USA leader in tackles (123).

The ODU non-conference schedule for the 2017 season is now complete as the Monarchs open the season against the Great Danes before traveling to UMass the following week.   ODU will return home to face North Carolina on Sept. 16 and complete the non-conference schedule Sept. 16 at Virginia Tech.
