MessFest at the Science Museum of Virginia

Contributors

science museum of virginiaThe Science Museum of Virginia is celebrating the messiest (and most fun!) parts of science in a new summer festival, MessFest, on Saturday, June 25.

Guests are encouraged to put on their play clothes and get ready to blast, splash, splatter and pop as they experiment with slime, explosions, bubbles and more. With messy areas to explore including a Slime Zone, Bubble Zone, Splash Zone and Blast Zone, the only question is: where to start?

From slingshot painting to running across oobleck slime, MessFest activities will kick off at noon at the Museum. Guests can launch water balloons from a giant trebuchet, create bicycle-powered spin art, play with air cannons and compete in a racing challenge. Museum scientists will blast ping pong balls into the air and create massive eruptions, revealing the science behind these explosive chemical reactions.

The festival includes food trucks, music and fun for the whole family. From bursting smoke bubbles to sticky Mentos Geyser eruptions, the Museum invites guests to come make a mess with them at MessFest (in the name of science, of course).

MessFest is sponsored by Virginia Lottery.

MessFest is included with Museum admission. Museum admission and a Dome Feature are $18 with $1 discounts for ages 4-12 and 60+. Visit www.smv.org or call 804.864.1400 for details.
