Contributors

road-work-headerA design public hearing for a proposed project in the Lynchburg District of the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) will be held on Tuesday, December 9 from 4-6 pm at Temperance Elementary School, 1981 Lowesville Road, Amherst, VA 24521.An inclement weather date of Monday, December 15, 2014 will be used, if necessary.

Citizens will have the opportunity to participate in an open forum with no formal presentations. VDOT representatives will be on hand to address citizen concerns.

The purpose of the Route 778 (Lowesville Road) bridge replacement project is to replace the existing structurally deficient bridge, construct necessary approaches and improve the connection with Route 617.  Structurally deficient does not mean a structure is unsafe; it means that elements of the structure are in need of monitoring or repair.

The limits of the project area will be from 0.086 mile south of Route 617 to 0.076 mile north of Route 617, a length of 0.161 mile. During construction the existing bridge will be closed and a signed detour in place.

Route 778 has an annual daily traffic (ADT) volume of 869 vehicles per day (vpd); the project ADT for this route in the design year 2038 is 1086 vpd.

Comments can be presented at the hearing, submitted in writing to the appropriate project manager at 4219 Campbell Avenue, Lynchburg, VA 24501 or to [email protected]. Please note “Route 778 Design Public Hearing Comment” in the subject line. Information must be postmarked, emailed or delivered by December 19, 2014.
