Tim Kaine and Mark Warner have introduced legislation requiring full refunds of Donald Trump’s unconstitutional and illegal tariffs.

Warning: not likely to pass, and even if it does, it wouldn’t get close to the two-thirds majorities needed to overcome the obvious Trump veto that would come.

So, anyway.

And even if this somehow did become law, it wouldn’t reimburse you, the average person who has had to pay more for everyday stuff because of Trump’s dumb tariffs.

The Tariff Refund Act of 2026 would instead prioritize the interests of small businesses vis-à-vis megabusiness interests in the refund process.

Which, that’s all good and well, because small business owners tend to get screwed in these situations, because of administrative costs that they can’t spread out like megabusiness interests can.

We’re talking $175 billion that came out of your pockets – the higher costs for stuff were passed on to you by the businesses big and small that you bought them from.

They’re getting their money back; you’re getting nothing and having to like it.

“I am glad the Supreme Court ruled against President Trump’s ridiculous abuse of emergency power to impose broad-based, cost-raising taxes on American consumers and businesses,” Kaine said in a statement. “These tariffs were a mistake from the start, which is why I led the charge to challenge them in the Senate. Now, I’m glad to team up with my colleagues to press the administration to fully refund Americans for the costs President Trump forced on them.”
