The Kaine for Virginia campaign launched “7 Days, 7 Ways Tim Kaine Stands Up For Virginia” to highlight seven ways Sen. Tim Kaine puts Virginia first in the U.S. Senate.

One of the ways Kaine stands up for Virginia is by protecting democracy. He has worked to expand the right to vote and worked across the aisle to pass into law legislation that will strengthen our democracy.

Kaine has been a civil rights champion his entire career. He has led the fight to pass the Freedom to Vote Act, named after civil rights legend and former Congressman John Lewis, which will protect voting rights nationwide following the Supreme Court gutting the Voting Rights Act.

Kaine has also cosponsored legislation so that it is easier for Americans to vote and know their registration status and require employers to provide time off to vote. Kaine also voted in support of the Electoral Count Reform Act, which adds new guardrails to make it harder for Donald Trump, or any president, to reverse the result of an election.

“Sen. Kaine is a leading voice in the U.S. Senate to expand voting rights and has worked across the aisle to strengthen our democracy,” Michael Beyer, Communications Director for Kaine for Virginia, said. “Every day, Tim Kaine is working so that it is easier for Virginians to vote because he believes that the more people participate in our democracy, the better.”
