Jeff Fife, a sort of “unofficial head cheerleader” at Kate Collins Feld for the Waynesboro Generals, has been supporting the team for years but has only had a microphone in hand for the last two.
“I feel like I’m the mascot without the Generals hat,” said Fife, whose day job has him serving as executive director of the Waynesboro Family Y.
Fife does whatever he can to get the crowd at Generals games involved, to make people enjoy their time at the park, and chiefly to get fans coming back.
His sole reason for coming out to the park every game night and helping the people in charge is simply because he “wants the people that come out to enjoy themselves.”
He employs tactics such as the traditional “dizzy bat race” and things as simple as the wave to get people involved and having more fun.
Fife helps out outside of games as well. The Y gives Generals players free memberships and the privilege to use the facilities during the season.
As Waynesboro’s “living, breathing noisemaker,” Fife will be making games more interesting until he loses his voice.
