Interstate 64 lane closures in Augusta County overnight July 12-17

The Virginia Department of Transportation is advising motorists to expect overnight left or right lane closures during the week of July 12-17 on eastbound and westbound Interstate 64 in Augusta County. These lane closures are needed for shoulder widening and pavement work in the Fishersville area, as part of the reconstruction of I-64 exit 91 at Route 285.

Eastbound left or right lane closures from mile marker 93 to 89 are scheduled as follows:

• Sunday night, July 12, from 9 p.m. to 7 a.m. the following morning.
• Monday through Thursday nights, June 13 to July 16, from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. the following morning.

Westbound left or right lane closures from mile marker 89 to 93 are scheduled as follows:

• Wednesday and Thursday nights, June 15 and July 16, from 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. the following morning.

All work is weather permitting.

When contractors finish the Route 285 (Tinkling Spring Road) project, the road will have four lanes for just over one mile, between Route 636/640 and Route 935 (Expo Road). A new bridge over I-64 will accommodate the additional through lanes and dual left-turn lanes at both on-ramps. Additional turn lanes at the Route 636/640 intersection will handle traffic from the nearby hospital complex. Route 285 will have a shared-use path for pedestrians and bicyclists.

The Commonwealth Transportation Board awarded Shirley Contracting a $21 million design-build contract in September 2012. The company is performing the work in three phases, starting with construction of the new bridge over I-64 and widening the roadway to the west side of Route 285.
