Reminder: Green Valley/Green Economy forum tonight
Five local Democratic Party General Assembly candidates will be meeting in Staunton tonight to discuss green jobs and the emerging green economy. 15th District candidate John Lesinski, 20th District candidate Erik Curren, 24th District candidate Jeff Price, 25th District candidate Greg Marrow and 26th District candidate Gene Hart will be on hand for the Green Valley/Green Economy candidates forum, which will begin at 7:30 p.m. and will be held in the Meeting Room at the Staunton Public Library, 1 Churchville Ave., Staunton.
The format will be to give the candidates time to make presentations and then open things up for a question-and-answer with the candidates.
The event is free and open to the public.
Local News: Chester to provide update on assessments lawsuit
Churchville attorney Francis Chester will hold a town-hall meeting with Augusta County residents on Tuesday, June 2, in Staunton to discuss the lawsuit that was filed against the Augusta County Board of Supervisors and Commissioner of the Revenue asking for the 2009 assessments to be rolled back to the 2005 assessments.
The meeting – to be held in the Memorial Baptist Church gymnasium at 224 Taylor St., Staunton – will address the current status of the lawsuit and other issues pertaining to the real estate assessments.
A hearing to consider dismissing the lawsuit has been scheduled in Augusta Circuit Court on Thursday, Oct. 1, 2009, at 2 p.m.
Local News: Harrisonburg company wins top award for TV commercial
A TV commercial produced by Harrisonburg-based production firm DIGICO Shoot | Post | Design received a top award at the Central Virginia chapter of the American Marketing Association’s annual EMMA Awards this past Monday. DIGICO was hired by Charlottesville-based Payne Ross & Associates to produce the commercial for the Downtown Business Association of Charlottesville (DBAC).
Created by DIGICO Design Director, Jeff Dobrow, the commercial was part of a Payne Ross campaign to let shoppers know what was happening during extensive walkway reconstruction on the downtown mall.
“Payne Ross approached DIGICO with one simple concept and then the DIGICO team managed to bring it to life and animate it in ways that we had not expected,” said Jamie Howard, creative director, Payne Ross, “and the spot instantly created a buzz among the viewing public.”
“The DBAC spot needed to create awareness and let shoppers know not just why and what was going on, but to show them what was coming next, and Jeff’s design did just that,” said Joey Groah, DIGICO partner and producer.

The Commonwealth of Virginia will host four public hearings across the state in June to receive public input on the Fiscal Years 2010-2015 Six-Year Improvement Program for highway, transit, rail and commuter service improvements.

Business News: DuPont Community Credit Union announces election results
The members of DuPont Community Credit Union recently re-elected two incumbents for three-year terms to the Board of Directors.
Everett J. Campbell Jr. was re-elected during the recent election. He has served on the Board for six years, and lives in Afton. Campbell retired as Plant Manager of the Stuarts Draft Hershey Plant.
Also re-elected was Raymond Reed. He has served on the Board for three years, and lives in Waynesboro. Reed retired from Dupont after working 35 years for the company.
The Board of Directors also selected its officers at their reorganization meeting this week. Campbell will serve as Chairman of the Board of Directors. Walter H. Hendrix of Waynesboro will serve as Vice Chairman of the Board. Mary Rothacker of Waynesboro will serve as Secretary of the Board. Q. Maurice Gresham of Waynesboro will serve as Treasurer of the Board.
DCCU is a not-for-profit financial cooperative and was founded in 1959. The Credit Union currently has over 55,000 members, and over $705 Million in assets. DCCU operates nine branches in the Central Shenandoah Valley region.

Event: Hiking With Children seminar set
Shenandoah National Park will be hosting a Hiking With Children seminar on Sunday, June 14, 2009, from 1 a.m. to 1 p.m. This program is for parents who have wanted to go hiking with their children but worried about what to do to keep them interested, entertained, and safe.
