Hurt comments on Consumer Financial Protection Bureau report

Congressman Robert Hurt (R-Virginia) released the following statement after a House Financial Services Committee hearing to review and discuss the semi-annual report from Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) Director Richard Cordray:

 “Unfortunately, the CFPB remains an opaque and dangerously unaccountable agency equipped with unprecedented power over America’s financial system and consumers’ personal data.  True consumer protection empowers consumers, not bureaucrats in Washington.  That is why the House passed H.R. 3193 earlier this year, a bipartisan bill that makes much-needed structural reforms to the CFPB.  And last week, the Financial Services Committee advanced nine additional bills that would bring greater accountability to the agency.

 “I remain committed to continuing our work on the Financial Services Committee to put forth commonsense policies that will get our fiscal house in order and promote economic growth.  Virginians and Americans deserve it.”
