Health and safety in the company workplace is one of the most crucial elements. You must provide a healthy environment for your employees by law. This should, of course, go beyond the minimum requirements. By supporting their wellbeing as well you encourage more productive work and give incentive to your employees to stay. This means working to improve the culture and office space. Your employees should be healthy, feel supported, and be confident in their place at your workplace. To help you improve the health and safety in your workplace to this end you will simply need to follow these key steps:

1. Train and Refresh Your Employees on the Health and Safety Requirements

Your employees are responsible for their own actions, but that doesn’t mean they cannot use a refresher on the health and safety requirements within your workplace. Some examples include fire drills once a quarter, or to send out refresher emails on their rights as an employee. Helping them know when to hire a workers comp lawyer to work with the worker’s compensation process can keep you as the good guy, even if your employee was injured on company property.

In short, though you cannot predict every incident, refreshing your employees on the actions they should take and their rights will give them the tools they need to take care of themselves and recover as quickly as possible.

2. Audit and Inspect Your Premises Regularly

The only time you need to particularly worry about an employee being injured on company property is if there was negligence to be had. To reduce injuries and minimize the risk of injury audit and inspect your premises and systems for any faults and work to fix any as soon as possible. This won’t guarantee that injuries won’t occur, but it will reduce the risk and provide evidence of your commitment to the safety of your employees.

3. Have Employees Trained in First Aid

Offering complimentary training in first aid to your workforce is a great benefit to have. A few employees will always be interested in learning first aid or refreshing their certification for free (especially parents). In turn you will have several workers on site in case of an injury, and can, therefore, minimize danger on-site before an ambulance can arrive.

4. Work on Providing Benefits that Boost Wellbeing

Providing benefits that boost wellbeing is so important when it comes to improving the health and safety of your workplace. If your employees feel supported and know that their mental and emotional health is cared for, they will be more productive, positive, and hard working. Mental illness can affect anyone, and can be either chronic or episodic. In short, anyone can be a victim and when they are experiencing an onslaught of anxiety or depression their health is not being cared for.

By providing a healthy environment, and even the opportunity to discreetly ask for an afternoon off to go to a therapist or the doctor you can show them you are on their side and ready to support them as they fight their illness.

The health and safety of your employees needs to be your primary concern. When they are supported, they will work harder for your business, so work hard for them.
