How did Trump sway Republican holdouts on the Big, Ugly Bill? He gave ’em stuff

We keep telling ourselves and each other, all we need is a few Republicans with a conscience and a backbone to stand up to Donald Trump on his Big, Ugly Bill.

Turns out, all it takes for Republicans with a conscience to stand down is autographed swag from Trump where the stable genius doesn’t even get your name right.

Tim Burchett, a Tennessee Republican who had been a holdout on the Big, Ugly Bill, got a placard with his name misspelled, which was OK with him, because Trump “told me he liked seeing me on TV, which is kind of cool.”

That’s it, huh.

There are no principles on that side of the aisle.

Burchett, of course, wasn’t the only holdout on the Big, Ugly Bill swayed by merch.

Oh, no.

According to New York Times report from Shawn McCreesh and Tyler Pager, Trump had a good-sized group of the fence-sitters over to the White House for “a blunt-force charm offensive waged with precision by the president.”

A video that Burchett posted to Twitter confirms this.

“They walked out with signed merchandise, photos in the Oval Office and, by some accounts, a newfound appreciation for the bill,” McCreesh and Pager wrote.

Who I feel bad for here: Ben Cline.

Our MAGA sycophant keeping the Sixth District seat in the House warm is forever loyal, but what does that get him at the end of the day?

Not even a placard with Trump writing in sharpie, “My Regards to Jim Klein, DJT.”
