George Allen took his Virginia Voices tour to Southside Virginia on Thursday to meet with small business owners and talk with the hard-working men and women whose voices are not being heard in Washington.
George Allen began his day in Rocky Mount leading the grand opening of the Republican Victory headquarters. Delegate Charles Poindexter and over 50 local residents gathered to welcome Allen and support grassroots volunteer efforts for victory in November. Allen then visited two local businesses, Ferguson Land and Lumber and Mod-U-Kraf Homes, to hear directly from local business owners their concerns about Washington’s policies and what they need to grow and hire more people.
“We’re honored to have George Allen visit our business and see firsthand the hard work and service Ferguson Land and Lumber provides for our customers,” said John Ferguson, co-owner of the family-owned business. “Rocky Mount is a great place to have a business and raise a family, but our concerns are the policies coming out of Washington, especially energy and environmental regulations that make fuel and electricity prices higher. I’m glad to hear George Allen understands the need for affordable, reliable energy we need to grow.”
In Chatham, Allen stopped by several small businesses along Main Street to hear how business is going and how Washington’s policies are affecting them. This afternoon in Danville, Allen will tour Multi-Wall Packaging Corporation, which specializes in packaging and shipping protection products, including corrugated products for protecting furniture, appliances and other items. Multi-Wall Packaging’s employs approximately 90 people at its Danville Facility.
“From small to large businesses, it’s inspiring to see Southside businesses creating jobs for Virginians, working hard and applying innovation to build more economic opportunities,” said Allen. “Washington has a lot to learn from Virginians, and that’s why I want to bring Virginians’ voices back to Washington. Mod-U-Kraf’s saying that ‘the future is built today’ is an important reminder that November 6 will determine the future of our country. It’s time for an American Comeback through more reasonable regulations and unleashing our plentiful energy resources from our coalfields to off our coast to power our economy and create the jobs Virginia families need.”
