Gas prices in Virginia have fallen 5.4 cents per gallon over the past week, per a report from GasBuddy, starting the day on Monday at $3.41 per gallon on average.

Nationally, the average price is at $3.47 per gallon, down 1.9 cents per gallon.

The national average price of diesel has fallen 4.0 cents in the last week and stands at $3.79 per gallon.

The reason for the decreases over the past week, per Patrick De Haan, head of petroleum analysis at GasBuddy: “weaker-than-expected demand, building supplies and a quiet period in the tropics.”

“For now, as we approach the end of summer vacations, I’m hopeful gas prices will continue to edge slightly lower in the week ahead,” De Haan said.
