Don’t sleep on Stanford if you get a big lead on them, like Virginia Tech did on Wednesday night in Blacksburg.
The Cardinal (13-3, 2-1 ACC, NET: 70) trailed by 12 with 2:18 to go, but closed on a 14-1 run, with Ebuka Okorie scoring 11 of his game-high 31 points, the final three on a stepback jumper with three seconds left, in the 69-68 win.
At first glance, the 70 NET rating looks low, because Stanford is 3-0 in Quad 1 games (at Tech, Louisville, Saint Louis).
It’s the Quad 3 home loss to Seattle (10-6, NET: 119) and the Quad 4 home loss to UNLV (6-7, NET: 171) that are doing them in right now.
Next week is treacherous: Stanford and Cal (13-3, 1-2 ACC, NET: 65) both get to share visits from Duke (14-1, 3-0 ACC, NET: 4) and North Carolina (13-2, 1-1 ACC, NET: 22).
Wooga.
Stanford rotation
Okorie, a 6’2” freshman, is, you know, pretty good – 22.6 ppg, 3.6 rebounds/g, 3.1 assists/g, 44.9% FG, 33.3% 3FG.
He also gets to the free-throw line a lot – 8.5 FTA/g, shooting 81.5%.
Power forward Chisholm Okpara, a 6’8” senior, also gets to the line a lot – 6.9 FTA/g.
Okpara’s vitals: 14.6 ppg, 4.0 rebounds/g, 39.8% FG, 30.9% 3FG.
We’ll worry about fouls with our starting point guard, Dallin Hall (3.7 fouls/40, fouled out twice this season), and our starting four, Thijs de Ridder (4.5 fouls/40, fouled out three times this season).
