Not a lot of detail here, but we know, from a press release from Virginia State Police, that Amanda Wiseley, 47, of Strasburg, the former Commonwealth’s attorney in Shenandoah County, has been indicted on two felony counts of making a false statement of a tax return and misuse of public assets, and that the charges relate to her time in the Commonwealth’s Attorney’s office.

Wiseley, a 2000 UVA alum with a law degree from the University of Richmond, served three terms as the Commonwealth’s attorney in Shenandoah County, and ran for a fourth, but she lost her 2023 re-election bid to Republican Lizzy Cooper.

A Shenandoah County grand jury returned the indictment against Wiseley on Oct. 16, and she was briefly taken into custody today, appearing before a magistrate before being released on her own recognizance.

Alexandria Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter will serve as special prosecutor in the case.

Wiseley is due in Shenandoah County Circuit Court on Nov. 5 for a preliminary hearing in the case.
