Two state troopers pulled a passenger to safety after the person was ejected from a vehicle that caught fire in a crash in Alexandria Sunday night.
One of the officers involved in the dramatic rescue was an August graduate of the 143rd Basic Session, according to Virginia State Police.
The crash occurred when the driver of a McLaren 720S sports car, alleged to be driving recklessly, struck something on Interstate 495 southbound in Fairfax County, and the vehicle went over a guardrail, landing on South Van Dorn Street below.
Both occupants were ejected, and the vehicle caught fire, before the daring rescue of the passenger by the troopers.
VSP responded to a report of multiple vehicles driving recklessly in the area of I-495 and Braddock Road just before 11 p.m. last night. As troopers responded to the call, one of the vehicles sideswiped another vehicle, causing the uninvolved vehicle to overturn multiple times.
Both occupants of the McLaren suffered serious injuries; one person in the sideswiped vehicle also suffered injuries, VSP reports.
Fairfax County Fire and Rescue assisted in transporting the injured to area hospitals.
Charges are pending.
