Democratic Party of Virginia formally approves 2016 Delegate Selection Plan

va-democratsThe Steering Committee of the Democratic Party of Virginia has formally approved the 2016 Delegate Selection Plan. This plan outlines the process to be used by the Democratic Party of Virginia in selecting delegates for the National Convention, scheduled to take place in Philadelphia on July 25–28, 2016.

The plan received overwhelming support from the DPVA’s Steering Committee on Friday, May 1st and was submitted to the Democratic National Committee for approval on May 4th, in accordance with the Rules and Bylaws Committee of the DNC.

The Democratic Party of Virginia called for a Presidential Preference Primary to be held on March 1, 2016 to determine the allocation of State and National Convention delegates. Cities and counties will hold caucuses April 1618, 2016 to elect delegates and alternates to Congressional District conventions and the State Convention. These delegates and alternates will attend Congressional District conventions in May, 2016 and choose district level delegates and alternates. The same state delegates and alternates will attend a State Convention in June, 2016 to elect National Convention delegates and alternates.

“We are proud to have delivered our delegate selection plan to the DNC’s Rules and Bylaws Committee in a timely fashion,” said DPVA Chairwoman Susan Swecker. “Virginia is a key battleground state. I hope Democrats will participate at every level of this process as we look to make a difference and elect another Democrat to the White House in 2016.”

English and Spanish summaries of the plan, including a step-by-step guide to becoming a delegate, are available on the DPVA website.
