Congresswoman Jennifer L. McClellan of Virginia joined House Democrats to introduce the Taxpayer Data Protection Act, a direct response to Elon Musk’s invasion of tens of millions of Americans’ privacy.

The Taxpayer Data Protection Act will stop individuals with conflicts of interest or without a security clearance from accessing the highly sensitive Treasury Department payment system, which is responsible for Social Security and Medicare benefits.

“Thanks to this Administration, Elon Musk and his minions now have unfettered access to Americans’ most personal information — including Social Security numbers and banking information. We cannot afford to stand by while Elon Musk, an unelected and unvetted billionaire, seizes unprecedented power. I am joining House Democrats to cosponsor the Taxpayer Data Protection Act so that Congress can hold the Musk-Trump-Vance Administration accountable for its attempts to steal from the American people,” McClellan said.

If passed, the Taxpayer Data Protection Act will curb corruption and protect privacy by ensuring that only trusted public servants without conflicts of interest and with appropriate security clearances can access the Treasury Department’s most sensitive systems.
