Deeds to seek re-election to State Senate

Chris Graham

Bath County State Sen. Creigh Deeds announced today in an e-mail that he will run for re-election to his 25th District seat.

“I am running for re-election because I am not finished,” said Deeds, who was the Democratic Party nominee for governor in 2009, losing that race in a landslide defeat to Republican Bob McDonnell. Deeds had indicated in ’09 that the run for governor may be his last win or lose, but his re-election announcement lists several items of unfinished business that had motivated his gubernatorial run in the first place.

“I am running for re-election because I know that to create opportunity in every corner of this Commonwealth, we have to invest in the necessary transportation and educational infrastructure to support economic growth. We need a transportation system that will move the workers and goods of a world class economy. We need to turn out world-class workers and attract the best paying jobs in the world to Virginia by taking a backseat to no one when it comes to education,” Deeds said.

The 25th Senate District represents a wide swath of Virginia stretching from Bath County over two sets of mountain ranges into Albemarle, Nelson and Buckingham County in Central Virginia and several localities in between.

Deeds has served in the Virginia General Assembly since 1992, dating back to the start of his first term in the Virginia House of Delegates. He has held the 25th District seat in the State Senate since 2001.
