Dairon Miguel Mencias-Perez was found guilty of distribution of methamphetamine and sentenced to 10 years in penitentiary time with six years suspended in the Waynesboro Circuit Court on Thursday.
The charges stemmed from a year long investigation by the Waynesboro Police Special Operations Division in conjunction with the Virginia State Police. On 3/27/13, Perez sold an ounce of methamphetamine to an undercover VSP agent for $1700 in the Wal-Mart parking lot in Waynesboro. On 5/7/13, Waynesboro Police arranged a second controlled purchase, utilizing an undercover VSP agent.
Perez again arrived at the Wal-Mart parking lot in Waynesboro for an agreed transaction of $3,600 for two ounces of methamphetamine. During this transaction, the Waynesboro Police SWAT Team arrested Perez without incident during the controlled purchase. An additional ounce of methamphetamine was recovered from Perez’s pocket during his arrest.
Perez is an illegal alien from Cuba who fled to the United States when he was 17 years old. He is currently being held at the Middle River Regional Jail, but will be transferred to a penitentiary after his sentencing.
