Court Square Theater brings Fiddlin’ doc to the screen

Court Square TheaterCourt Square Theater announces screenings Sept 29-Oct 1 of Fiddlin’, which tells the inside story of the Old Fiddler’s Convention in Galax.

Filmed in the Appalachian Mountains at the World’s Oldest Fiddler’s Convention, Fiddlin’ shows the uplifting and healing power of music. With multi-generations jamming together and kids holding instruments instead of phones, this documentary is a step back in time.

Sister filmmakers, Julie Simone and Vicki Vlasic, earned permission to film the Old Fiddler’s Convention run by the Galax Moose Lodge primarily because they were granddaughters of someone Lodge members knew. The filmmakers’ local connection not only allowed them to receive permission to film (a first in the Convention’s 80-year history), but also earned them the trust of talented musicians who opened their hearts and shared their stories.

This documentary allows us to witness to some incredible flat-foot dancing as well as off-the-charts pickin’ and fiddlin’. And when the top ten finalists are announced in the ultra-competitive guitar competition, we’re in for an exciting finale!

Fiddlin’ is on the screen at Court Square Theater Sunday, Sept 29 (2 and 4:30 pm) and Monday-Tuesday, Sept 30-Oct 1 (4:30 and 7 pm). Tickets are $9.50 Adult, $8.50 Senior/Student, and $8 Matinee (before 5pm). For more information and to purchase tickets, visit valleyarts.org or call 540.433.9189. Tickets are also available at the door 30 minutes prior to each showtime.

Arts Council of the Valley’s Court Square Theater is located at 41-F Court Square in Downtown Harrisonburg.
