Construction, temporary closure of Carrsbrook Drive in Albemarle County

Contributors

albemarleThe Board of Supervisors has approved a construction project along Carrsbrook Drive to replace a failing underground pipe between the upper and lower lakes along Carrsbrook Drive. The Virginia Department of Transportation and Albemarle County’s Office of Facilities Development will begin construction in the next several weeks. Construction is anticipated to last four to five weeks.

During the replacement, Carrsbrook Drive will be closed to through-traffic at the dam between North Indian Springs Road and Marlboro Court for approximately 3 weeks as the road is open-cut to allow for the excavation and removal of two existing 42-inch deteriorated pipes and the installation of a new 60-inch pipe, manhole and riprap outlet channel.

In addition to the road closure, a 6-inch waterline serving the area will be taken out of service for approximately 8 hours ahead of construction because the waterline conflicts with the repairs. The Albemarle County Service Authority will send letters to affected properties in advance of the outage. Notification boards will also be posted 7 days prior to the outage.

Construction and closure is expected to be completed while schools are on summer break to mitigate impacts to buses/school traffic. The closure will be coordinated with police, fire departments and school summer programs. VDOT has determined that the detour route to be used will be Northfield Road, which connects to Rio Road. Notification boards will be posted 7 days prior to the closing and detour signage will be posted when construction begins.

Project updates will be posted on www.albemarle.org/newsroom. If you have specific questions about the project, please contact Frank Pohl, Senior Project Manager, Albemarle County Office of Facilities Development, by e-mail [email protected] or by phone (434) 872-4501.
