City of Waynesboro to begin improvements at Constitution Park

Chris Graham

CDBG plansThe City of Waynesboro is set to begin improvements at Constitution Park beginning Monday, June 1.

The park improvements are being funded through the City’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) Program. This grant was awarded to the City in 2013 for the revitalization of Downtown Waynesboro. Several facade and streetscape projects have already been completed. The planned park improvements will be undertaken in the southwest corner of Constitution Park and are intended to provide an improved pedestrian connection between the Park and the downtown business district.

Specific improvements include brick sidewalk pavers at the Main Street entry to the park, a handicap ramp, improved concrete steps and handrail, street crosswalk and extensive landscaping. The internal walkway to be built in this phase is designed to connect to the City’s Phase II Greenway Trail, which will be completed in a subsequent project through VDOT’s Transportation Enhancement Program. The construction project has been awarded to Dinks Construction LLC of Linville, Virginia.

Construction is expected to begin in June and be completed by September.
