The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Waynesboro donated 32,600 pounds of food — an entire truckload — to the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
The donation, delivered on Monday, included a mix of pasta, protein and vegetable items that will provide a variety of foods for hungry neighbors.
“This will be enough food to feed 1,750 families,” said Jessica Shover, Food Sourcing Specialist for Blue Ridge Area Food Bank.
Hunger impacts approximately one in six Virginia children, and as many as one in nine Virginia residents face the daily challenge of not knowing where their next meal will come from.
“Everyone should have enough food and adequate nutrition, and we are happy to help in this effort however possible,” said Jason Papin, local stake president for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
The Blue Ridge Area Food Bank seeks to feed the hungry, no matter the circumstance.
The food bank feeds 180,000 people per month, from food donations received from the federal government, churches, nonprofits, corporations and individuals.
