Charlottesville man dead after attacking woman, struck by car as she fled

A Charlottesville man who reportedly attacked a woman in a parked vehicle was struck by the vehicle as the victim tried to flee, leading to the man’s death.

Charlottesville Police identified the man as Edward Fitzhugh Anderson, 42.

The incident was reported at 7:34 p.m. on Saturday in the 700 block of Nassau Street, according to a release from the Charlottesville PD.

The attack appeared to have been unprovoked, and the parties are not believed to have known each other prior, according to police, who reported that the driver remained on the scene after the accident.

The investigation remains active, but there are currently no charges pending, according to the report.
