New Dominion Bookshop will host a reading and book signing with author Tochi Eze on Saturday, Sept. 6, at 7 p.m.

Eze, a writer and lawyer from Nigeria, will be reading from her debut novel, This Kind of Trouble, which was released from Tiny Reparations/Penguin Random House.

Longreads named her short story “The Americanization of Kambili,” published by Catapult Magazine, as one of 10 outstanding stories to read in 2023.

She has an MFA from Florida Atlantic University and is currently a PhD student in English literature at the University of Virginia.

A startling and propulsive tale of forbidden love, This Kind of Trouble traces the intertwined legacies of one family’s history, exploring the complex relationship between tradition, modernity and the ways we seek healing in a changing world.

A conversation with author Bruce Holsinger will follow. Holsinger is the author of five novels, most recently Culpability, and many works of nonfiction. He serves as board chairman for WriterHouse, a local nonprofit in Charlottesville.

This in-person event is free to attend and open to the public.

New Dominion Bookshop is located at 404 E Main St. on the Downtown Mall in Charlottesville.
