A one hour and fifty-five minute rain delay at the start didn’t dampen the sellout crowd of 4,801, and the top-ranked UVa. baseball team sent the fans home happy with power and stellar pitching that propelled a 3-2 Cavs win over Oklahoma in Game 1 of its Super Regional series.

A leadoff home run by Phil Gosselin and a two-run sixth-inning homer by Dan Grovatt supplied the scoring, and ace Danny Hultzen, who went eight strong allowing two runs on six hits, provided the pitching.

Hultzen (11-1) outdueled OU starter Michael Rocha (7-2), who gave up three runs on five hits in six and a third innings.

Game 2 of the best-of-three series is Sunday at Davenport Field. Game time is 4 p.m., and the game will be broadcast on ESPN and online at ESPN3.com.

A UVa. win would send the ‘Hoos to a second straight College World Series.
