One Baltimore Orioles prospect raking at Triple-A that we haven’t talked about lately, Connor Norby, had a homer and a double on a 2-for-5 night in a 17-7 Norfolk Tides win at Durham on Thursday.
Norby, who plays second base and outfield, is rated the #5 prospect in the O’s farm system by MLB.com.
He’s slashing .294/.383/.505 with 12 homers, 49 RBIs and an .888 OPS at Norfolk this season.
Norby did get a brief callup to the big leagues earlier this year, and was 4-for-14 with a homer in four games with the Orioles before being sent back down.
It’s hard to see a place for Norby, 24, a 2021 second-round pick out of East Carolina, with open spots either in the infield or outfield lacking, given the plethora of young talent on the O’s 40-man roster.
The front office would seem to be more likely to want to move a guy like Norby as GM Mike Elias tries to address starting rotation and bullpen needs at the trade deadline.
