Augusta Health patients insured by Cigna got some good news today – the parties came to an agreement concerning reimbursement rates prior to a Dec. 31 deadline.

As a result of the new agreement, Cigna-insured patients will remain in-network at all Augusta Health facilities and physician practices.

Augusta Health was dissatisfied with reimbursement rates for care leading them to an impasse, the hospital announced in October. Augusta Health reported an increase of more than 50 percent in costs in the last five years.

Augusta Health President and CEO Mary N. Mannix said the hospital had one goal in negotiating with Cigna – “fair reimbursement rates consistent with regional providers — nothing more, nothing less.”

Until these terms were set, they were among the lowest paid by Cigna in the local market, the hospital said.

The resolution ensures continuity of care for patients insured by Cigna. According to a hospital spokesperson, they serve approximately 4,500 patients each year with Cigna insurance.
