Augusta Health announces Student Art Competition winners

Art Competition WinnersAugusta Health recognized the winners of its Student Art Competition and the local artists displayed in the collection in the Heart and Vascular Center at a reception on Thursday, March 14.

The artists selected were:

  • First Place:  Branden Capestany, Waynesboro High School, Grade 11, $500 prize
  • Second Place:   Justin Turner, Waynesboro High School, Grade 12, $250 prize
  • Third Place:  Jennie Moore, Buffalo Gap High School, Grade 11, $100 prize
  • Honorable Mentions:  Gracie Brooks, Waynesboro high School; Audrey Cook, Waynesboro High School; Brynne Perry, Waynesboro High School

In addition to prize awards, the prize-winning pieces will become part of the art collection in the Heart and Vascular Center.  The collection currently contains nearly 70 pieces created by local artists.  All artists in the collection were invited to the reception.

More than 50 works of art from local students were entered into the competition from the art programs at Buffalo Gap High School, Fort Defiance High School, Riverheads High School, Robert E. Lee High School, Stuart Hall Upper School, Stuarts Draft High School, Waynesboro High School and Wilson Memorial High School.  Judges were Linda Blake, Laura Gilliland and Maribeth Nolde.  The judges were impressed with the caliber of all the art submitted, and the talent and creativity of the students.
