The Augusta County Sheriff’s Office investigated a report of a suspicious person at Cassell Elementary School on Thursday.

A press release from Sheriff Donald Smith noted that the 19-minute investigation was “directed out of an abundance of caution, and the issue was not directly related to our school.”

A call for service was made at 1:30 p.m., according to the release, and the sheriff’s office requested that the school be placed under the code “secure.”

Doors were checked to ensure they were locked, windows were covered, and there were no outside activities during the code “secure.”

All students were accounted for and safe in their classrooms. Instructional activities continued during this time.

At approximately 1:49 p.m, the sheriff’s office notified the school that the situation was under control, and that Cassell could return to normal school activities.
