Augusta County Sheriff: Juvenile shot in Stuarts Draft Thursday night

A juvenile in Stuarts Draft was shot Thursday night, according to the Augusta County Sheriff’s Office.

The shooting allegedly occurred when a juvenile was handling a handgun belonging to their parents. The victim sustained a single gunshot wound to the back shoulder area, the ASCO reports.

The incident happened at approximately 7:33 p.m. on Ox Road. The juvenile was transported by the Stuarts Draft Rescue Squad to Augusta Health in stable condition, and later flown to UVA Health for further treatment.

The suspect is a juvenile and will not be identified, according to Augusta County Sheriff Donald Smith.

The incident is under investigation.
