The Augusta County Library will host a three-part series on Genealogy Basics on Saturdays, March 1, 8 and 15 at 10 a.m. Each week will focus on a different aspect of researching family history with presenters from the Augusta County Genealogical Society.
Topics will include an introduction to genealogical research, constructing family “trees”, accessing Ancestry.com for free, and using archives such as court records, census schedules and military service logs. Participants will also receive an orientation to the special collections of the Augusta County Library and the Augusta County Genealogical Society Library.
ACL Adult Services Librarian Sarah Skrobis says, “The library is seeing an increase in people who are interested in learning more about their family’s history. This series will provide a solid starting place and will also showcase the variety of resources available for free at the library.”
This program series celebrates the relocation of the Augusta County Genealogical Society Library to the Fishersville Library. Volunteers from the Society staff their library from 9 a.m. to noon on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays.
